If you are a foreigner who needs a visa to attend a tech conference in the USA, you will need to apply for a B-1 visa, which is a business visitor visa. Here are the steps you can follow to apply for a B-1 visa:
Apply for the tech conference: Using our travel portal, apply to attend tech conferences or seminars.
Complete the visa application online: Fill out Form DS-160 through the Nonimmigrant Online Application.
Print the completed form: You will also need to prepare passport-size photos, which you will be asked for later.
Schedule your interview: Schedule an interview with the United States Consulate or Embassy in the country where you reside.
Prepare for your interview: Obtain a non-refundable payment before the date of the scheduled interview and have the necessary documents on hand, such as your passport, your printed copy of the DS-160 form, photos, and a receipt from your payment. Be prepared to answer questions such as why you want to visit and where you will be staying during your visit. Having papers to backup your applications will definitely increase your approval chances.
Wait patiently for your visa approval: You can expect a response regarding your visa approval (or denial) at least a week or two after your interview. The entire visa application process for attending a conference in the US can take 2 months or more, so it is recommended that you apply for a visa as soon as possible, but no later than three months before you wish to enter the United States of America.
In addition, you have to request an invitation letter from the conference organizers by completing an ‘Invitation Letter Request Form’ that will most probably be available on the conference website or you can even email the organizers of the conference requesting the form.
